Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

3 steps, Trust IN the Lord, not in yourself, and acknowledge him. If Adam would have just did that back in the garden, how much different would it all be today?
This does not mean to "dummy down"yourself and just flounder in life. Proverbs is full of gaining wisdom and understanding, in fact it is profitable to do so, it is worth more than silver. But we are NOT to lean on that alone, we are top call upon the Lord for His understanding and guidance, divine understanding which we in the flesh are incapable of. In the flesh we can make things appear as WE want them to. We are NOT omniscience nor omnipotent.
In order to handle the knowledge of good and evil, one must possess (1) the ability to completely comprehend all possible options and contingencies (omniscience), (2) the righteousness and wisdom to choose the right course, and (3) the power to make reality conform to the right course (omnipotence).

In other words, only God can handle such knowledge.
The more understanding and knowledge you gain of the Lord, the closer you draw near to Him. The closer you draw to Him, the more you will see and understand his ways for you.
